Hi, guys —

We are four Catholic ladies on a vacation. We are leaving tomorrow, and we accidentally made a big meatloaf last night.

Today is a Friday in Lent and we have been observing no meat on Fridays in Lent. We are now faced with eating the meat or throwing it out in favor of tuna salad. My thoughts are that the waste is worse than the breaking of the fast. We have to throw it out if not eaten!

Please guide us!

Thank you!

Carol

Bob replied:

Dear Carol,

If it were me, I would try to find someone to donate it to and do the tuna, but you are right; throwing good food away is not a good option when so many in the world suffer from hunger.

If you can't find a suitable (donee/recipient), I would try and make up the fast day by doing double duty some other (way/day) and eat the roast so as not to waste it.

God will accept your apology for messing this up; we all make mistakes.

Peace,

Bob Kirby
