Hi Janet,
This is a common question; it's even in our searchable knowledge base. There are a lot of quick answers there, so give it a try.
The simple answer would be one set of divine doctrines are written and a different set of doctrines have been passed down to us by word of mouth since 33 A.D. (Luke 10:16) I searched the knowledge base for you and found these web postings that may help:
I hope these web pages help,

Janet replied:
Dear Mike
The web pages will help so much!
Thank you and God bless you for doing all that work for me! I am taking (FTCM) Formation Toward Christian Ministry classes to become a certified Catechist and we had an entire lesson on Scripture and Tradition. I was raised in a Protestant home and converted 30 years ago at the age of 27.
I am grateful for your guidance and for giving me a path to follow!
Thank you again!
