Dear Uncertain,
In addition to what my colleague Eric said, I'd say the following.
In certain circles, there are two different reactions when the subject of the end times arises.
- The erroneous one entails saving up food, water, and clothing, as if our human efforts can out due God's Effort and Divine Will.
People in this camp get obsessed to the point where they forgot the spiritual side of their current and future life.
- The appropriate response is:
- to pray the Lord has mercy on our many sins and habits and that He gives us the proper grace of conversion to His Will, and
- to preach the totality of the Christianity faith, the Catholic faith, to those who either:
- have rejected Jesus and His Church for some reason
- have never heard of Jesus or the only Church He founded on St. Peter, or
- have never been invited to Mass (Invite someone today!)
God bless our priests. Without them we wouldn't be able to receive the many sacramental graces most Catholic Christians take for granted. Nevertheless, I think it's important to move from maintenance mode to outreach mode.
While growing in knowledge of Christ and His Church is critical, we have put that knowledge into action, remembering the Words Our Savior told us before ascending into Heaven in Matthew 28 — that we are called to be a missionary people who are striving to bring:
- lapsed Catholics back to the Church
- seeking Protestants into the Church, by our witness of love, more than our words, and
- sharing Jesus and His Good News with Muslims and other non-Christians who are
open-minded to listening to us and coming into the Church.
One of our key goals at AskACatholic.com is to bring as many people as possible to the Wedding Feast of the Lamb at the Second Coming.
I hope this helps,
Mike
