Thanks Father,

I have a question regarding the role played by Joseph, the son of Jacob, in the history of salvation.

  • What role did he actually play?

  { What role did Joseph, the son of Jacob, play in the history of salvation? }

Mike replied:

Dear Robin,

We are not priests, nor fathers, we are just faithful Catholics who freely help others understand the faith better. This sounds like a test question or question for a theology paper.

That said, all I can do is give you sources where you can find this information, unless one of my other colleagues wishes to add something or give you other sources for your test:

John replied:

Mike this looks like an assignment but I'll provide a quick answer below if you thinks it's legit.

I'll give you just surface look.

Looking at the life of Joseph, we see a type of Christ. We see someone who, in spite of the way he was mistreated by his brothers, forgave them and saved them from starvation. In doing so,
he saved Israel. After all, if he had never been sold into slavery, he never would have been in the position that he eventually found himself in.

He became Pharaoh's right hand man and, if this hadn't taken place, perhaps Jacob and his sons would not have survived the famine. Judah would not have had decedents and it is through the line of Judah that Jesus was born.

John

Robin replied:

Mike,

I am sorry, this was not a test question.

I thought you were a priest so I wanted to clarify some doubts I had.

Anyhow, thank you for your kind information regarding my question. Keep up your efforts to promote the Faith in Christ and He will surely reward you.

Once again, thank you and your team,

Robin
