Hi, guys —

I was born and raised a Catholic. I have strayed from the faith for my own personal reason however I have a question and/or an observation:

  • How do we know how or in what form Jesus will return?

With all this Tim Tebow stuff, many people are denouncing him for reasons of openly expressing his love and faith in Jesus Christ. He continues to do good things off the field and has had great success on the field, even though people continue to doubt him. As you can see I'm putting the pieces together.

  • Weren't people killed and ridiculed for spreading the teachings of Jesus at one time including Jesus, himself?

When I see people spew hate and doubt towards this man, there is an eerie comparison with a lot of similarities of how those who spread the Word were treated. Obviously, he isn't literally killed, but he's been verbally killed by the way people have denounced him.

Some of the world's responses to Tim are similar to the responses and fierce resistance Jesus and His Apostles ran into.

Suppose Tim Tebow is a "chosen one" to spread the Word.

  • Should we pay more attention to him, or at least monitor the situation and circumstances?

Hi, Butch —

You said:

We know that Jesus will return in a manner in which all will see, and in a way that all will recognize Him.

Yes.

We are all chosen to be Christ to the world, to spread His Word and Life.

Mike replied:

Hi Butch,

I would just add that there is no reason why Catholics shouldn't strive to imitate Tim's attitude.
Too many Catholics in the pew are afraid or ashamed to mention they are Catholic, though the percentages of Catholics in some cities and towns are very high. The Boston, Massachusetts area has the fourth largest population of Catholic Christians.

My question to them is:

Would you rather be ashamed in this life, or at your particular judgment, which we will all have, from the Popes of the Church and Leaders of the nations, to the poor beggar on the street?

I'm not suggesting you have a "greater than thou" attitude about your faith or judge others but, like Tim, just express it, without shame, when you are drawn by the Spirit.

If you are challenged by questions about your faith, be honest, and if necessary, say you don't know the answer, but will find the answer and get back to them.

The fierce resistance you mention is correct; many of the early Church martyrs and legions of martyrs in the twentieth century received this, but they saw beyond the criticism and fierce resistance to the Heavenly Reward, if they persevered.
