Hi, guys—
- If my Confessor says I don't need to make restitution for a sinful act and he gives me absolution, does God really forgive me, even if I could have made restitution, but never did?
- Should I trust my confessor on advice he gives me?
That's my trouble I guess, not trusting. I have been worried that I, may not be forgiven, am going to Hell, and I can't seem to let go of my past sins.

Hi, Carol Ann —
Your Confessor is the Judge.
His decision is accepted by God.

Hi, Carol Ann —
When you hear the priest in the Confessional say to you:
. . . I absolve you of your sins.
Those are the words of Our Blessed Lord Jesus. Trust them; your sins are forgiven!
Priests are human and he may have had other things on his mind and forgotten to give you a penance (in order to make restitution). To put your mind at easy, you can just say:
- an Our Father
- Hail Mary, and
- Glory Be.
If you have a problem with scrupulosity, which you may, bring this up with your confessor.
Hope this helps,
Mike
