Dom DeLorenzo wrote:

Hi, guys —

Occasionally, I have seen people at my church and other places, kissing their hand in a fist-like manner after making the Sign of the Cross.

  • What does this kissing symbolize?
  • It seems like a very respectful thing to do, so what is the proper method for doing it?

Thanks,

Dom

Mary Ann replied:

Hi, Dom —

Usually it is Latino Catholics who perform that gesture.

I believe is a modern devotion that derives from the traditional Catholic custom of kissing the crucifix of Rosary beads after making the Sign of the Cross at the end of the Rosary.
