Hi, guys —
I am a devout Catholic but I would like to
know how many Catholics there are in each
country, particularly in Vietnam, where
I was born.
Thank you,
Christy

Hi, Christy —
The only Catholic population project I did for the AskACatholic.com
web site was within
the United States back in 2007. You may have to scroll down a bit from this page to see the relevant data.
Searching the web, this was all I was able to find. The
last ones from Wikipedia or Catholic
Hierarchy may the best ones to review.
Catholic
Church by country answers your question:
Country |
Total population |
Percentage that are Catholic |
Catholic total |
Vietnam |
83,535,576 |
6.8%
7.0% |
Wikipedia: 5,658,000
Catholic-Hierarchy: 6,332,700 |

Hi, Christy —
The annual book Catholic
Almanac, published by
Our Sunday Visitor Press, has
population figures; check with
your local library for a copy.

Hi, guys —
Look what I found on Face book; it appears to be part of the Wikipedia page on Vietnam.
On the page it states:
The Catholic Church in Vietnam is part of the worldwide Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of Bishops in Vietnam who are in communion with the Pope in Rome. Vietnam has the fifth largest Catholic population in Asia, after the Philippines, India, China and Indonesia. According to Catholic Hierarchy Catalog, there are 5,658,000 Catholics in Vietnam, representing 6.87% of the total population. There are 26 dioceses (including three archdioceses) with 2228 parishes and 2668 priests. |

Thank you so much.
Although I expected the number of
Catholics in Vietnam to be much higher
than that, I appreciate the time
it took to look this information
up.
I have a lot of pride in being Catholic
and could spend a couple hours explaining
why.
- Does anyone have the time? . . .
ha, ha, ha.
