Hi, Rudy —
Baptism as a sacrament,
as we know it now, was originated by Jesus, not by John
the Baptist. The baptisms that John the
Baptist performed were merely symbolic
signs of repentance.
If he was baptized, we do not know
who did it. My guess is that he might
have been baptized by Jesus (recall
he said to Jesus at Jesus's baptism, I
need to be baptized by you.),
but this would be hard to reconcile
with the tradition that he was the
last of the Old Testament prophets
— being baptized by Jesus would
make him a New Testament Christian
believer.
