Hi, guys —

  • Is the book, Full of Grace, written by Judith Dupre, published through Random House,
a reliable source; meaning, is in accord with Catholic teaching as to:
    • who the Blessed Mother Mary is, and
    • how she may have lived?

If it is not, can you please refer me to a good Catholic book that is grounded in truth that will tell me about the life of our dear Blessed Mother Mary.

Thank you for your answer.

Lucy

  { Is the book, Full of Grace, by Judith Dupre a reliable source, and if not, what is a good source? }

Mike replied:

Dear Lucy,

Your question falls outside the scope of our mission.

I have not read the book and I don't know enough about it to comment on the book as a whole.

We aren't a book review club though Cardinal Timothy Dolan has said:

What a stunning book! A gem! I endorse Full of Grace enthusiastically.

—Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York

Beyond that, it would be unfair for me to comment on the Mariology of her book because, again, I haven't read it, though I would be cautious of any author of any Marian book who displays a hint of disappointment with the
male-only priesthood or who questions why the Church doesn't have women priests.

This was addressed by Pope St. John Paul II in his Apostolic Letter, Ordinatio Sacerdotalis.
An understanding of this teaching can be found in one of our many postings.

If any of my colleagues have read her book, I'm sure they will reply appropriately.

You may want to consider reading comments from those who have read her book on Amazon.

You may also find this book by Anne Catherine Emmerich and the books under Customers who viewed this item also viewed: interesting:

You can't lose with books authored by Dr. Scott Hahn. Most of the time, they are very insightful!

Hope this helps,

Mike
