Hi, guys —

I have a question about Jewish and Christian differences.

  • If the Jewish people are still waiting for a Savior and they didn't believe it was Jesus Christ then what else are they waiting for?
  • Why wasn't Jesus enough
  • Why just a prophet?
  • What did they expect: a creature or a rich king?

Calvin

  { What are Jewish people waiting for if they didn't believe Jesus was the Savior; wasn't He enough? }

Mike replied:

Hi, Calvin —

Thanks for the question.

There are at least five different branches of Judaism:

  1. Reform
  2. Reconstructionist
  3. Conservative
  4. Orthodox, and
  5. Hasidic (Ultra-Orthodox)

and each branch will probably answer your questions differently.

We can't answer these questions because we are Catholic. We believe Jesus (was|is) the fullness of both:

  1. Messiah ben David, and
  2. Messiah ben Joseph.

Catholics see the Church as the fulfillment or completion of Judaism and so do many Jews who are entering the Church today!

Many of them refer to themselves as Hebrew Catholics and believe they have sacrificed nothing of their Judaism in entering the Church. Here is a website where you can learn more about them:

Association of Hebrew Catholics

As for your question, to get the best answer, I would recommend asking a practicing Jew in each of the five branches I mentioned above.

Hope this helps,

Mike
