Hi, guys —

I would like to know the Catholic Church's official position on the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Isaac

  { What's the official position of the Church on the Susan G. Komen Foundation? }

Bob replied:

Isaac —

I don't think there is an official position of the Church on this particular foundation, however, there are principles which may or may not be relevant on which it does take a stand.

Funding research that utilizes stem cells from aborted fetuses is one example. I don't know if the SGKF is an advocate or not of such research, but that would be problematic from a Catholic standpoint.

Hope this helps.

Peace,

Bob Kirby

Mary Ann replied:

Isaac —

The Catholic Church takes no official positions on organizations, only on truths or deeds.

A Catholic is by definition pro-life, so most good Catholics would have a problem with the fact
that the Komen Foundation donates heavily to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider.

In addition, abortion causes breast cancer, so there appears to be a conflict of interest for the Foundation, to the point where one of their officers quit over it.

A good site is LifeSite where they confirm what I have said.
