Shawn Hughes wrote:

Hi, guys —

Yesterday I took $10 from my son's wallet to go get my medicine from the store. I told him about it when I got back and asked him to forgive me because I didn't fully explain to him I took it ahead of time.

I went to Confession and told my priest about this but I may have not described exactly how the incident happened. I felt bad after the Confession and asked my son to forgive me again; he did.

  • What do I need to do?

I still feel somewhat guilty, but I am somewhat scrupulous.

Thanks!

Shawn

  { What should I do if I'm a little scrupulous and still feel guilty about my sins after Confession? }

John replied:

Hi, Shawn —

Thanks for your question:

God has forgiven you, your son has forgiven you. Now all that's left is for you to forgive yourself.

Jesus died for our sins, including that one. John tells us:

If we confess our sins, He (Jesus) is faithful to forgives us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(1 John 1:9)

So it's up to you to stop walking in condemnation. No one accuses Shawn except satan. It's satan that wants nothing more than to render Christians useless by convincing them to walk with their heads held low and in shame for their sin.

Nevertheless, your sins and mine, were nailed to the Cross with Christ. Once you've repented, you can be sure that Christ has forgiven you. Actually, He forgave you on the Cross almost 2,000 years ago, so forgive yourself and move on to serve the Lord.

John
