Hi, Marcia —
This prayer is somewhat problematic
for a couple of reasons.
- First, it attempts to exercise
direct control over evil spirits,
which is contrary to the example
of Scripture (Jude 9). Also compare
it to the St. Michael Prayer (May
God rebuke him, we humbly pray).
- It also makes reference to some
sort of generational healing,
which is not part of the Church's
tradition. Some of the language
is also not in line with the Church's
tradition and seems to be borrowed
from popular Pentecostal or charismatic
Protestant sources.
Largely it is good, though there
are a few probably fairly minor objectionable
details. As for why it is
not more popular, well, besides the
question of how sound it is, it's
very charismatic-sounding, rather
lengthy, foreign to Catholic ears,
and probably doesn't get much exposure
outside Charismatic circles.
This is not to say there is anything
wrong with being Charismatic, just
that it probably sounds weird to
your average Catholic or parish priest
and so they won't be drawn to it.
