Hi, guys —

I am a recent convert to Catholicism. I am very proud of my Catholic Faith and am about to be a father again, for the second time. It is a son. My family originates from Scotland and Northern Ireland (Antrim County).

I would like to know if there are any Catholics in my family because I am being told that my son will be the first born Houston family Catholic in over 400 years.

If you could help, it would appreciated it.

Thanks You,

Stan

Mike replied:

Hi Stan,

Thanks for the question.

I did some research and came up with these web sites. For some of them, I'm sure you have to pay to use their services.

Just forward the question you sent us to their contact us page, to see if it is worth the money.

Cyndi's List appears to have a pretty good list of web sites you can use as resources under:

General Resource Sites

Here a book from Amazon that may help as well:

Tracing Catholic Ancestors (Pocket Guides to Family History) (Paperback)

Get back to us and tell us how things worked out. If good, I'll post it on the site under your question.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Stan replied:

Mike,

Thanks for your assistance in this matter. I think I have found my answer unless I have overlooked something.

My family originated in Scotland and later moved to Antrim County in Ireland shortly after the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. This was during the great migration of Protestants to Northern Ireland.

All the cemetery records show that Houston Family names are only in Protestant cemeteries.
There were none in the Catholic cemeteries. The Houston's were mostly Presbyterian.

Therefore, it seems to me that my son, who will be born in February, will be the first Catholic born a Houston in over 400 years. What an honor that will be for him and my family!

Thank-you for your help,

God Bless,

Stan Houston
