Hi Patsy,
Thanks for the question.

- Is it appropriate for both the Sacrament of Reconciliation
and the Sacrament of the Eucharist to be celebrated at
the same time?
I don't see a big problem here.
In the Boston area, at St. Anthony's Shrine, they
have always heard Confessions while Mass is being
celebrated.
This is not only good, it is very good, in that,
it ensures more people will receive the Blessed Sacrament
in a state of grace.

I am not sure people should be
standing in line for Confession during The Sacrifice
of the Mass.
While I empathize with your sentiments, I think the
inward intent of the penitent to be made holy out
weighs any concern for any apparent lack of reverence
during the institution narrative of the Mass or the
Mass, as a whole, itself.
I think it's safe to say all Catholics should be
kneeling in reverence during the institution narrative of the Mass, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
CCC 1353: In the institution narrative, the power
of the [priest's] words and the action of Christ,
and the power of the Holy Spirit, make sacramentally
present under the species of bread and wine Christ's
body and blood, his sacrifice offered on the cross
once for all. |
Hope this helps,
Mike
