Dear Patricia,
You said:
- If a person had a recording of dead relative from Purgatory, who would you bring it to? . . . the person asking for prayers?
I concur with my colleague Eric's answer. You know the person more than Eric or I, so if you think it would encourage (him or her) to pray for their relative's soul, yes, bring it to them.
At the same time, you can share with them another Apostolate I have been working on with a colleague of mine, Brian Bagley for 15 years.
Here's a write-up in the Worcester Catholic Free Press about our work:
As it says on our home page:
Both Brian and I think the work of praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory has been overlooked for way too long.
Our mission, one of mercy, is to relieve and gain release for the suffering, saved souls in Purgatory who can no longer help themselves. We do this by monthly donations, collecting loose change and returning redeemable cans and bottles. All funds collected are used to place Holy Masses for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory.
We also fulfill our mission by holding a Holy Hour for the Holy Souls every Tuesday night at St. Brendan (384 Hartford Avenue, Bellingham, Massachusetts) from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. All are welcome.
We share our mission by distributing complimentary Prayer Packs (used at our Holy Hour or privately at one's convenience) to patrons of the Holy Souls. These Prayer Packs are a gift of the Apostolate and no Mass money collected goes toward their cost. All funds collected are used (in the form of stipends given to Priests) to place Masses for the Holy Souls.
Our primary aim is to have Masses, said by Priests, every day of the year for the Holy Souls. The Patron Saint of our Apostolate is Saint Nicholas of Tolentino; known as one of the great apostles of the Holy Souls in Purgatory. His feast day is September 10th.
Our secondary aim is sharing our apostolate with others who have a desire to replicate what we are doing. They specifically include:
- How to go about gathering monthly collections to have Masses said for the Holy Souls on a regular basis and
- If you want, establishing new Purgatory Prayer Programs in the United States using our complimentary Prayer Packs

For those in the United States, they are FREE for the asking. Just go here and send us your name, postal address, and e-mail address.
For those outside the United States, they can download a digital MS Word version of our program packed as a ZIP file from our download page in six different languages.
We have been doing this for 15 years and, to-date in the United States, have sent out over 217 Purgatory Prayer Programs, to 41 out of 50 United States.
That said, if you are interested, or know others who may be interested, in our FREE program and website, spread the word!
Blessings,
Mike
